The Left Side

It’s an important match for Birmingham City tomorrow in the race to beat the drop from the Premiership, against one of their rivals in the relegation fight Blackburn Rovers. Ewood Park has been a tough place for Blues to get points, with Blues not winning there since 1968, suffering five defeats in their last eight trips there. Defeat to Blackburn wouldn’t be the end of the world, but this is a game where Blues should be aiming to win to stay out of the drop zone and maybe force Blackburn into it.

Contracts

As the 2010-11 season draws to a close, eleven Birmingham City players are in a position where they don’t know what club they will play for next season. Under the Bosman ruling, they are free to talk to any club outside of the English League system about a contract for next year, but will have to wait until June 1 before they can discuss terms with another English team. I thought I’d take a look at those eleven players in a bit more detail.

Defeat

Some reflections on the game against Newcastle United: 1) The Corinthian Spirit doesn’t win matches I admire the fact that McLeish has tried to impress on the Blues team that they should play the game in a sporting manner; not going down from a challenge unless they have to, not niggling the ref or other […]

Anti-football

My reflections on the home game against Stoke City: 1) When you’re wrong, you’re wrong For most of the second half, I was thinking Zigic needed to be subbed; indeed, when Jerome came on I thought it would be for the lanky Serb rather than Martins. McLeish got it spot on though; whilst Zigic didn’t […]

Battle of the Blue

These are my reflections on last night’s game against Manchester City 1) Zigic may just be the new messiah Well, maybe not but he certainly is now starting to prove his worth. As he did against West Ham, the lanky Serb showed why we paid £6million for his services; he won most headers; his control […]

Transfer review

Well the window finally clanged shut at 11pm; Sky Sports News collectively orgasmed at three huge deals wrapped up in the last few moments, and up and down the country fans are breathing with relief that it’s all done. Here in Birmingham, it’s not been too bad a window for us on the Blue half […]

Wembley

Well, it’s the morning after a deliriously happy night before, and I figured I should try and put some thoughts into writing on here. 1) Don’t Stop Believing… I’ll admit it, at half time I thought we were out, and we deserved to be out. We’d been very ineffective, Derbyshire was a waste of a […]

Villa preview

As much as some Blues and Villa fans try to deny it, tomorrow is the big tamale. The second city derby, home leg. Yes, it’s seen as a bit small time to treat the derby game as a big game – after all, it’s a bit of a relegation six pointer – but despite what […]

Hovis

The end of the transfer window is nigh, and in just over 17 hours as I write this, we will know the squad Birmingham City have to survive the next four months with. Two days ago, when the Charles N’Zogbia transfer collapsed in a mercenary heap after the young Frenchmen tried to demand an extra […]
