Ownership Travails

Although things have quietened down surrounding Birmingham City and the travails of their parent company, the Football League have been kept busy by other clubs with ownership issues. Nottingham Forest have been placed under a total transfer embargo due to the non-payment of transfer fees for £5million signing Britt Assombalonga, while Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino has been told he does not have to sell his shares as “he does not exercise control over them”.

Tightening restrictions

The takeover of Doncaster Rovers by John Ryan and Louis Tomlinson of One Direction collapsed earlier this week in acrimony as their attempt at crowdfunding collapsed £1.25mil short of the £2mil target. Ryan has now angrily threatened to walk away from football completely, bitterly complaining that he has been “used and abused”.

The Ownership We Deserve

With Jeremy Wray’s takeover of Birmingham City seemingly stalled once again people online have questioned whether BIH want to sell the club. Although there is undoubtedly difficulties in selling the club due to the intertwined nature of its finances with BIH and the hoops that the regulatory authorities want BIH to jump through, one does wonder if there is other reasons for the continued delay in news let alone a sale.

Barmy Owners

Football club owners seem to be a barmy lot. I don’t think it’s particularly insightful to discuss the mainly negative views held by Blues fans towards the club’s president, Carson Yeung but when I read people say “anything would be better than what we have now” I do wonder just how much people would be willing to take in replacement.

Ownership in Football – an OP editorial

If there is one thing I have noticed this season, it’s the preponderance of clubs who have problematic owners. Our opponents today, Coventry City, are also under a transfer embargo as they haven’t agreed funding for next year with their owners. Portsmouth are in administration; Leeds United fans are protesting against Ken Bates. It got me to thinking about the fit and proper persons test, and what’s wrong with it.

Dispatched: Is Foreign Ownership really to blame?

Like many other football fans, I watched Dispatches on Channel Four last night. I was intrigued as to what they would say about the world of Football finances and whatnot. Of course, with all the hullabaloo surrounding Carson and Blues recently I was intrigued to see what mention we would get on the programme.

Who are ya?

In the last few days, an excellent blog piece by The Swiss Ramble regarding Birmingham City’s finances has been circulating around the twittersphere and the messageboards. It is a bit long, but the writer has taken the time to try and look at things in depth, and summarise them in a language that most laymen […]

Texas Courtroom Massacre

Liverpool. I’m not a fan of the city nor the club that takes it’s name if I’m truthful, and it’s hard for me to feel sympathy for the fans whilst they endure the current circus freak show mockery their board is making of their club. When news broke last night that Tom Hicks and George […]

One thing I’ve aimed to do whilst writing this blog is to try and research a little about Birmingham City’s owners. Not much is known about them in truth, and I’m intrigued as to what their plans for the club are; how they see the future at BCFC. We know that the Chinese business model […]
