Zigic Caps Off Blues Career With Senior Cup Win

Richard Beale’s Blues Development Squad side finished their season with a trophy after beating Nuneaton Town 2-1 in the Birmingham Senior Cup final at St Andrew’s tonight. First half goals from Wes Harding and Matt Green were enough to seal a win which ended closer than it might have been.

Making Changes?

Birmingham City take on Reading at St Andrews hoping to bounce back after a poor showing against Blackpool led to a 1-0 defeat – the first of Gary Rowett’s reign. It could see the second coming of Nikola Zigic in a Blues shirt after it was confirmed the Serb has received his visa and clearance in time to be registered for the game.

The Prodigal Serb

It was announced yesterday that Nikola Zigic has been granted a work permit and will sign for Birmingham City until the end of the season. The lanky Serb, who scored 36 goals in 148 games for Birmingham City was released at the end of last season at the end of his contract but still lives local to the club.

Return of the Zig

It was widely reported yesterday that Nikola Zigic is back training at Wast Hills having seen his contract with Birmingham City lapse at the end of last season. The Serbian forward scored 36 goals in 148 games for Blues with his last goal for the club scored against Bolton as Blues survived the drop on the final day.

The Birmingham Mail today confirmed that Birmingham City would not be pursuing an interest in AEK Athens winger Vangelis Platellas. The 25 year old scored fifteen goals in twenty-one games as AEK won the Greek Third Division at a canter.

Sky Sports News has pubished a story this morning that former Derby County Chairman and current Hull FC owner Adam Pearson has entered the race to buy Birmingham City. Pearson is reported to be in a consortium along with Mike Farnan, who was previously involved in trying to buy Leeds prior to Massimo Cellino’s successful bid.

Burke, Ziggy and Robbo to stay?

The Birmingham Mail today reported that Chris Burke and Nikola Zigic are in line to be offered new deals to stay with the club along with captain Paul Robinson. Both Burke and Zigic would have to take pay cuts in the current climate – Zigic especially so – but it’s understood both want to stay at the club and could potentially sign.
