As the season draws it near one thing that seems to have been prevalent over Blues pre-season campaign has been Gary Rowett’s stubborn insistence on playing any other right-back than Paul Caddis. The Scottish defender has racked up 149 league appearances for Blues but there is no guarantee his 150th will come on Saturday against Cardiff.

Insipid Blues Lose to Hibs in Flat Friendly

Birmingham City went down 1-0 to Hibernian at Easter Road this afternoon in a very flat performance. Michael Morrison is potentially a doubt for the weekend having been substituted “as a precaution” in the Capital One Cup win over Bristol Rovers. With David Edgar having been loaned out to Sheffield United without a recall clause it potentially leaves Blues with two fit centre-backs – Paul Robinson and Jonathan Spector – for the clash with Burnley at the weekend.

Defensive Cover

Since the collapse of the signing of Rob Kiernan a few weeks back, Birmingham City have not brought in any defenders to strengthen their back line. Although Blues go into the season with four seasoned centre-backs, there are concerns among some sections of fans with respect to David Edgar, Jonathan Spector and Paul Robinson being up to the task.
