Chris Hughton
Silver Linings
As the league season reaches its penultimate week, I’ve been thinking back about things that have happened and how I’ve felt about this season. It’s almost passé now to talk about the “trials and tribulations” that Blues have suffered in the summer of 2011 these days because its been gone over so often. A lot of the good that has happened this season has been seen to happen despite the stuff that Blues suffered last year. I want to offer the contentious opinion that relegation, the McLeish saga and the Yeung arrest were all blessings in disguise for Blues.

Injuries and Cover
With Stephen Caldwell hobbling off the pitch last night suffering with a groin injury, Blues are stripped even further to the bone injury-wise. If we take the worst-case scenario that none of the currently injured players are fit to return against Brighton at the weekend Blues are back down to four senior defenders; one true first-team central midfielder and a bunch of wingers and strikers. Who do Blues bring in?

Youth versus Experience
Once again it appears Blues are down to the bare bones of their squad again with injuries to central midfielders Guirane N’Daw, Keith Fahey and Jordon Mutch leaving Chris Hughton with the age-old selection headache of going with out-of-position experienced players or chancing it with a rookie. It’s something that gets talked a lot about on forums and I thought I’d jot down my thoughts on it.

The Season So Far In Numbers Pt II
A little while back I wrote a piece about some of the facts and figures surrounding this season, and after coming across an excellent statistics website (courtesy of NevBCFC on the BCFC Free Forums site) I thought it might be time to add some more.

Eating Humble Pie
Flaming typical of my record of prediction with Blues; I write something about us losing the plot promotion-wise and the lads come back and win two on the spin away. I could try to claim it was reverse psychology but I’d be lying.

The Pendulum Swings Back Blues Way…
What a difference a couple of days make. After witnessing the lacklustre performance of Blues against Cardiff last weekend I really feared for our playoff chances – yet at the time of writing Blues sit fourth again and with results going the way that they have it looks like the pendulum has swung firmly back in Blues’ favour.

Don’t Panic (Just Yet)
Well blow me, the sky is falling in. Blues lose 4-1 to Pompey and all of a sudden the doom-mongers come out saying our season is over. Having taken an early lead through Nikola Zigic (who incidentally became the fourth Blues player this season to hit double figures goal-wise after Wood, King, and Burke), it all fell apart and we’ve taken a tanking. Is it time to reach for the razorblades and valium?

Can Blues Go Up? An OP Editorial
It’s been a rough few weeks for Blues fans’ promotion hopes. Defeats against Leicester away and Forest at home; stumbling to draws at Coventry and at home to Derby have seen Blues fall out of the playoff zone and pretty much kiss the chances of automatic promotion goodbye. Can Blues bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt?

Tired and Weary – is the amount of games a valid excuse?
It’s something we’ve been hearing all season – Blues are tired out because of the amount of games they have played. I wondered if this was a fact or fallacy; have Blues played a significant amount of games more than other teams? And if so, is it possible that tiredness is the factor people are making it out to be.
