News of incoming transfers to Birmingham City have been a bit thin on the ground, and as such this piece by Colin Tattum in yesterday’s Birmingham Mail was seized upon hungrily by messageboard forums eager for news of the retooling at St Andrews. Alas, it’s contents were met with some chagrin as the names of strikers that have been mentioned are somewhat underwhelming.

The Cameron Jerome Problem
If there has been a subject that has divided Blues fans this year, it’s been our goal-shy striker Cameron Jerome. For many he typifies why we went down – no goals, no real chance of scoring and the antithesis of a top striker; others (and I include myself in the second camp) think he’s a bit misunderstood and a bit unlucky to have suffered so badly in front of goal.

Hispanic Lefties
Whilst tomorrow’s match isn’t a “must-win” by any means, it would be nice if Blues could get at least a point and finally put an end to any lingering worries of relegation. Provided we don’t get hammered (again), defeat wouldn’t be that much of a catastrophe – but it would be nice if Blues could improve on an away record which has seen them pick up just two away wins in seventeen games.

Back to the Chalkboard
Having had some time to reflect on the game yesterday against Wolves, I thought it would be interesting to review and analyse in detail some of the match to show where Blues were strongest and weakest.

Under Pressure
Tomorrow sees the visit of Wolves to St Andrews, in what can only be described in the classic football cliché of a “six-pointer”. With the end of the season now coming up fast, pressure is starting to bear down on Blues – even more so on Wolves – and tomorrow could be an absolute humdinger.

And Torres Still Hasn’t Scored
Here are my reflections on the Chelsea v Birmingham City game from last night. Please note that I watched this game on a dodgy internet feed rather than at the ground.

Unlucky for the Black Cats?
Blues can take another massive step to survival with a win against the Black Cats of Sunderland tomorrow, whilst pushing former manager Steve Bruce’s charges into a relegation dogfight. Whilst the game doesn’t have the same “must win” feeling of the last home match against Bolton, there is the sense that defeat would properly drop us back into trouble
