The Carson Trial – Day 29
Two further witnesses took the stand to give evidence for the defence as Carson’s trial on five counts of money laundering entered its 29th day.
Oriental Daily reports that Carson Yeung’s cousin Yeung Mou-gwan (direct translation) gave evidence first, stating that in 1991 he was general manager of the Marriott Grand Hotel in Huanggang, just over the board from Hong Kong in mainland China. He stated that Carson and his father opened the hotel and that between 1991 and 1994 the hotel made HK$2-3million before Carson sold it.
The defence also called Carson’s former bodyguard, a Nepali by the name of Shrestha Basanta. He said that he had worked for Carson between 2006 and 2012 and that he had accompanied Carson to mainland China on many occasions for charitable activities, including giving money to the China Foundation for Disabled Persons.
South China Morning Post this morning focussed on a disagreement yesterday between the witness Chim Pui-chung and the presiding judge, Judge Douglas Yau Tak-hong as tempers flared in the courtroom.
The case resumes tomorrow for its thirtieth day of hearings at 2:30pm (7:30am BST)

Ten consecutive court days, that has to be a good thing!
the judge disagreeing with a defence witness doesn’t look good for Carson. Again all evidence just hearsay. Is there any tangible evidence for the defence? IMO he is a goner.
I have said from day one that all evidence given as been hearsay/opinion. and hear we are day 30 and still the same. Dan, I really want to thank you for your reports mate but dont ever again say my opinion was Laughable just because you disagreed with me and now you must admit i have been proved right, but hay no hard feelings Dan and keep up the good work.
Not this again.
What I said was your viewpoint is based on 300 word articles mainly translated from Cantonese by someone (ie me) who doesn’t really speak that language, not what is heard in court and therefore you are making assumptions and stating your opinion as a fact. You failed to comprehend that not everything that happens in court makes it into a newspaper and that maybe, just maybe more has happened than has been reported.
You THINK that all the evidence is hearsay/opinion but if you’re not in court you won’t have seen any documentation handed over or anything like that. You are of course entitled to your OPINION, but it doesn’t make it fact…
I give up on you .
You’re an idiot.
It was me (Different Dan) that said your post was laughable, you stated unequivocally that the judge would not consider the evidence as it was hearsay.
A judge will take into consideration all evidence that he allows to be presented whether that be hearsay, opinion, expert witness statements and documentation.
You make a lot of bold statements based on your opinion of a small article summarised on a blog.
Not looking good for CY and upsetting the judge as well.
PS: Anyone read this yet? http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1485884?cc=5901
Agent M – already linked on here and as I said previously, if they can’t get Ziggy’s age right I doubt the veracity of the rest of it.
Zigic was born on 25/09/80,which makes him 32 years old.
Bodyguards, his cousin, some guy who has done time for forged documents. Very very odd
In fairness, that guy who did bird was also for eight years (and more recently) one of the top officials in HK.
Just wish they,d sell up ,I am right in thinking guys that the sale of davies don’t even cover zigics wages for the season, saying that sell Redmond to and that prob covers it then, what a joke, did he write his own contract, what idiot agreed to that .
ED77 i could not agree more. Our star players disappearing for peanuts. peter peanut is Carsons Henchman. The reason all other bidders for the club have failed is the fact that Peter Peanut has instructions to sell the club to Carsons m8s (another Chinese Consortium) As soon as all of the other BLUES fans realise that these are NOT investors merely asset strippers. These people arte worse than the Kummars.
Totaly agree, i can’t believe our football league are just standing by and letting things happen, must be something they can do, as for ziggy, if i did as poorly a job , i’d be sacked, so why can’t he ????
Ryoston – what do you expect the league to do?
There’s absolutely no way you can call this case atm. It really could go either way. One thing I would say though… it would probably be counter-productive to get on the judges tits at this point lol
As for the trial speeding up a notch… maybe the judge is as bored as us with the whole thing!
Staffs, what ounce of evidance can you tell me the judge has been given to enable him to clear cy of all charges.
I have NO clear evidence of anything… just like everyone else. I’m not daft enough to call it either way.
I think the guy is guilty… but that’s not evidence… no more than you saying he is.
you need to read my question again. I asked what evidance do you think the judge has been given to clear cy.
And you didn’t read my answers! I have no evidence either way… which is why I’m not making a judgement. I’ll leave that to the judge.
The integrity of the witnesses is comical. Ex jailbirds, relatives and heavies. I would have thought that all CY needs is a few pieces of paper which prove how much money has passed through CY’s fingers and from which legitimate sources. A hotel that made a couple of bob over a few years and winning a few more bob on a roulette table is not going to account for 50 miliion quid, especially as up until now it is all pure heresay. Them cockroaches are a coming!
TBF, Chim embodies what HK goes wrong: Mr 16813 (his prison number when serving in prison and what he is usually referred on the net) got elected repeatedly in a ultimately closed and broken constituency, got questionable friends in which Carson Yeung is the smallest fish.
When you get to the real thugs like Albert Yeung (most notoriously known as a suspected money launderer through an entertainment agency which lost money for many years in a row) or even the ones behind Oriental Daily and the Sun HK (Which both sued Wikimedia, a popular online forum and a independent news site for posting that the backers are still wanted in HK for trafficking). Now these are bigger fish.
I can even say this is how that Oriental Daily / The Sun runs. But I digress.
I just have this lingering feeling that he’s going to be found innocent.
I totally agree with Sol & Duncan but the reports are very sketchy and all the evidence is week but if he has got to prove his innocence then he is a goner from what I can see. At best just a few million scraped over many years
duncan will you please not have any of lingering feelings please, your making me nervous.
i just want it to end……….please!.KRO.
I too can see an “innocent” judgement coming. As mentioned above, from the information we can gain from newspaper reports, it doesn’t seem to be a case that is based on hard evidence. This could be down to the HK stock exchange not keeping documents for a long period of time and therefore the hard evidence is not available. It seems to be based upon the prosecution stating that the behaviour and movements of CYs money would generally (in their experience and opinion) point to money laundering. CYs just calling up witness’s that will state that he has money, or at least appeared to.
Pure Monty Python …
‘Gave a lot of money to charity ..’
Whats that got to do with anything ?
sounds like desperation, Steve
That could well be the case. He’s certainly been doing something while he’s been camped over there for most of the last year….. and it certainly hasn’t been selling the club (other than down the river.)
I think you`ll find he lives there, lol
So do millions of other people…. but they don’t run Birmingham City Football Club!! Jezus wept.
But he don’t care about us…….
wake up man, where you been? He aint allowed to leave the country dope.
Tongue in cheek ….maaaaaan…..that”s where I”ve been. What”s not being allowed to leave the country got to do with anything?
Another witness who has done time ??
Is there anybody in the HK financial institutions who hasn’t got a chequered past ?
I suggest bribe the judge, because on the reported evidence of his mates (I mean witnesses) Carson’s going to swing
i hope so mate i really do.KRO.
Here’s looking forward to day 30! Wonder who the next witness will be? Bernard Madoff or Kweku Adoboli maybe?
maybe he should get bartley and burn over there cause they sound more like a pair of defending
solicitors than a pair of defending centre halves! KRO.
………….it seems to me that C.Y.cant lose as his witnesses have more downtime in court than the court officials……and who,s is the rotweiller…….I would like blues to offer Swindon a deal for paul caddis whereby blues will sign paul caddis on with the agreement that if blues ever sell him ,Swindon will receive the first 250,000 pounds of the fee……
i think the caddis deals done with now weve got eardley!.KRO.
Accepting that everything that is said or happens in court does not make the press, nevertheless what I have seen doesn’t add up tp diddly squat in monetary terms and does not show from where he obtained his wealth. Defence need to pull a rabbit out of the hat, in my opinion.
Maybe the judge knows carson from way back, and they are best buddies. Also maybe the judge likes abit of a flutter on the game tables……. Sometimes people got to accept this the hk way….everyone knows everyone. Lol maybe the next witness will be a lord major….gosh at least when carson returns we be solvent……..
Bang Bang !!!!!!!!!!!!! and the Gallows are getting higher !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scenario:
Carson is found innocent ….what happens….?
Carson is found guilty….what happens…?
Call me Mr Cynical……but whoever may be the new owner in the future you only have to look at what the politician speak is….”sorry there is no money left”…….any excuse after due diligence to come up with some excuse or the other..remember the £40m transfer kitty?
Bored with it now *yawn*
“Nuff said……exactly….

Could do with seeing the back of both of them tbh?????
I do feel sorry for carson he had it all, 9th premiership and cup, he must sitting in hk thinking where did it all go wrong….. I do wonder if he wishes the opportunity again to return, if he is not found guilty……. I for one would gladly wish him back…………if mistakes were made I hold anyone who not made mistakes in their life……..please step forward……
Mark – I have often thought this myself mate.
OMG, what’s wrong with you people!
GUILTY all the way, wish all this would hurry up and finish so our beloved club can move on.
