Revenge of the Teenagers? Barnsley Preview

Blues will be looking to avenge the 5-0 thrashing at St Andrews when they travel to Oakwell today. Keith Hill’s Barnsley side have suffered of late as well and it could well be an interesting scrap as both teams fight to avoid being in the relegation mixer.

Barnsley

Barnsley’s win at the weekend was their first win in twelve attempts and arrested a wretched run that goes back a couple of months. In that time they have failed to keep a clean sheet in thirteen games and they lie in 22nd place, three places and five points behind Blues.

Barnsley have some injury worries of their own with leading scorer Craig Davies likely to miss out again. Defender Martin Craine limped off in the Millwall win joining Akos Buzsaky, Emile Sinclair and Reuben Noble-Lazarus on the sidelines.

Blues

Blues have added youngsters Reece Hales and James Fry to the squad along with Jake Jervis who was recalled from his loan spell at Portsmouth with Nikola Zigic now the only fit senior striker at the club. Paul Robinson is likely to return from illness, and will replace either Will Packwood or Mitch Hancox in the starting line up; Blues also have the difficult decision of deciding whether to stick with the youth in the team or bring in old hands such as Chris Burke, Wade Elliott and Morgaro Gomis for Rob Hall, Nathan Redmond and Callum Reilly.

Blues have actually only lost one in the last five games despite the current injury crisis, although it’s probably prudent to point out they’ve only won once in that timeframe. Three points would see them open up an eight point gap to the bottom three and a bit more of a cushion against the possibility of relegation.

I don’t want to predict this one at all; I don’t think Blues can rely on their kids every week and I worry that if they do they might come unstuck. Barnsley are suffering too but the morale-boosting win at the weekend should do wonders for their confidence and they will have the psychological advantage of knowing that they’ve turned us over once already this season. However, it should be a game Blues target to win – Barnsley can’t stop conceding and if Blues can play with the vim and vigour shown in periods of the game against Burnley they might just get a result.

If ever there was a game where we could say “we owe them one” then this is it, we owe them a battering but I’d settle for 1-0 to Blues & the fact that we have won 1, lost 1 & drawn 3 of our last 5 games maybe doesn’t sound good but for me it’s stopped the rot & given us something to build on, let’s start looking at the glass half full rather than half empty all the while.
If Robbo is back today i’d rather him be at left back, i’m not overkeen on defenders playing out of position especially on their “wrong” foot. Anyway here’s hoping for 3 points & some xmas cheer. KRO

I am hoping he continue with the youngsters because they give him is passion and commitment and desire hopefully they want to wear the shirt with pride. They make a mistake or two so what, have we never made a mistake.
Sorry to say but the other players do not have divine right, and if the youngsters deserve their place great. As true bluenose watching your next crop fantastic, they have better chance in this division than been slaughter every week like 8-0 ho ho (villa). It about time the true bluenose rise and get behind this new generation, instead of singing inappropriate songs about the board. We as club need to move on, show these youngsters that we are the best supporters in Midlands show our ralling cry. Be proud to be a bluenose and take the up’s as well as the downs. “sing our hearts out for the lads” and keep right on to the end of road. St Andrew rocks.. come on you blue boys….we are in this together. KRO

it is about getting the right result, but unfortunately albeit our youngsters continuing their football education. The more game time these young players get against difficult teams, the better they will become. Just look how far Jack Butland come.. and may be sold in january!!! for millions. I believe this side might surprise a few teams, barnsley beat us at home with possibly on paper decent blues team back then. So I say good luck to this young blues team, and have a go we are right behind you. .. KRO

This is not connected to today’s game, but what is the story behind Keith Fahey..? I seem to have missed this one. Can anyone provide a link..?

I’ve asked this question a number of times but got nowhere. my own assumption is that either him or his wife or both are homesick for Ireland, He had this problem years before he joined Blues he couldn’t settle in England. Clark said it was compassionate leave due to family matters & he could take all the time he needs to sort it out & that’s all we know for sure, apart from the fact that he’s sittin at home on a fat wage packet while the club that pays his wages continue to struggle.
