Referee Watch – Carl Boyeson

Barring any late changes, Carl Boyeson of East Yorkshire will be in the middle for Blues’ game against Bolton Wanderers at St Andrews on Tuesday. Here is a look at his stats.

Season Performance

Mr Boyeson has been in the middle for five games this season, showing eight yellow cards. Of those games, only one has been in the Championship – the game between Middlesbrough and Barnsley in which he showed two yellow cards. Last season Mr Boyeson took chartge of thirty-seven games, showing ninety-eight yellow cards and eleven reds – almost one every three games. Ten of those were in the Championship, and in those he showed twenty-six yellows and two reds. A quick scan through google would indicate that various managers have found Mr Boyeson’s decisions a little hasty and maybe a little controversial.

Last Blues Game Refereed

Mr Boyeson was in charge of the re-arranged game at Oakwell between Barnsley and Birmingham last season which finished 3-1 to the Blues. In that game he showed four yellow cards – to Jonathan Spector and Jordon Mutch of Blues, and David Cotterill and Jim McNulty of Barnsley. He’s not mentioned in Tatt’s match report but Boyeson drew considerable ire for the late cancellation of the original fixture.

Last Championship Game Refereed

The game at this level refereed by Mr Boyeson was the game bwteen Middlesbrough and Burnley on Tuesday 21 August in which he showed yellow cards to Jonathan Woodgate of Boro and Marvin Bartley of Burnley. He isn’t mentioned by the Middlesbrough Gazette match report whilst the local Burnley newspaper haven’t got a match report on site.
