GAMEDAY: Leeds Away

Birmingham City travel north today to face Leeds United, looking for their first goal and first win of the campaign. With two new players in their ranks and against a team that only scraped past Fleetwood on pens in midweek is there where the goal trail starts?

Leeds United

Garry Monk is likely to hand a debut to Luke Ayling at full back this afternoon after bringing him in from Bristol City, with incumbent Gaetano Berardi picking up a hamstring injury in the 3-0 defeat to QPR last weekend.

Blues

Gary Rowett has to decide whether to hand debuts to new signings Che Adams and Greg Stewart as he looks to shake up a side which has looked pedestrian in their first couple of games.

Jonathan Spector should come back into defence at right back along with Ryan Shotton in the middle while Stephen Gleeson and David Davis could come into midfield to replace Maikel Kieftenbeld and Robert Tesche.

I have to be honest in that I can’t see either of our new players starting this one as I think Rowett will want to introduce them gradually. If they do play, Rowett has intimated he sees Adams playing through the middle and Stewart cutting in from the right, so it will be interesting how they slot into our system and what it means for other players in the squad.

Ref

Paul Tierney takes charge of this game, barring any late replacements. He was in the middle for 42 games last season, showing 118 yellow cards and four reds. His last game involving Blues was the 2-1 defeat away to Charlton at the Valley in April of this year. In that game he booked three players including Jonathan Grounds
