Video Podcast: The Bids

Birmingham International Holdings announced yesterday that they have received two further expressions of interest in Birmingham City FC.

I’ve put together the following video to talk through where we’re at with the bidding process.

Key points:

  • Cynicism over timing of the bids with respect to season ticket renewals may be unfounded
  • Optimism that a multi-billionaire is behind one of the bids may also be unfounded
  • Ernst and Young will be doing due diligence to find the right bid for all BIH shareholders
  • Carson’s legal team may have caused issues for him in court by talking about the club possibly falling into admin and by trying to join the summons.

I don’t give a monkeys about billionaires, zillionaires or squillionaires… owners that would allow us to compete for a top 6 place would be a good start.

    • BhamCityJulian says:

You’ll need a billionaire to compete for top six

      • StaffsBlue says:

Maybe. But we weren’t a million miles off this season.. and we have owners who don’t appear to have a pot to p1ss in. My point was, I don’t expect, or want, to be the next Man City or Chelsea.

        • steve says:

20 points is a long way off staffs. there have been some embarrassing home results.

          • StaffsBlue says:

A couple yes steve, but not many more. We had an 0-8 under the caretakers and a 0-4 under Rowett. The only other time we’ve been beaten by more than one goal at home, was against Sheff Wed. Apart from those, I don’t think we’ve been embarrassed at home.. beaten yes, but not embarrassed.

20 points is well off the pace now yes, but at certain points in the season, we’ve only been 9 off. It could and should have been a lot closer.

  • nigel sale says:

My only worry is if another Chinese consortium is chosen and we have the same problem as at Cardiff and other clubs changing things and sacking managers at a whim

  • Peter Bates says:

Someone who can bring proper stability to the club and give Gary rowett an even playing field with other clubs to compete in the championship lets hope our club can now see light at the end of the tunnel lets only listen to information from e and y via the hkse at least then we will know there is truth in it keep up the work Dan and kro

  • Richard Granfield says:

My most pressing question is:- Have you ever taken your baseball cap off? LOL.

  • Oldbluenose says:

The most encouraging thing that I picked up, Was that there has to be monthly reports by E+Y, to the HKSE, so only the truth will surface, — No more subterfuge by BIH,!!!!!!!!!.

  • ChrisG says:

This all sounds very good to me, I know we all want this sorted asap but obviously patience is gonna be the key here, what we want is for someone to bring in a bit of stability & a few quid for GR to build a promotion winning squad & I think the majority will be happy, mind you there will always be the odd few that aren’t!!!

  • Dave Mann says:

Like the ones that slagged off gold & Sullivan and ide kill to have owners like them again again who steadied the ship and then built one of our best ever teams or squads and went on to play premiership football at a full house St. Andrews .. Ide be more than happy with that and I or we can’t blame them for selling to Carson yeung when they offered £81mlion .. They’re have been morons not to sell at that price . Kro

    • StaffsBlue says:

I never had a problem with G/S/G/B. I wish we still had them.

    • ChrisG says:

I don’t think it was the money so much, I think it was more to do with the abuse & aggression shown towards them from certain sections of so called supporters

      • Shirley Blue says:

G&S lost interest when they didn’t get the license for the super casino and therefore the opportunity to build a new stadium. Birmingham City from that day forward couldn’t match their ambitions. That’s why they have moved West Ham to Wembley. While they did great things for us, they and Brady became household names thanks to being owners of our club rather than just being well known in the porn industry and all three made millions indirectly off the back off that. I still think they must have known CY was dodgy during the lengthy and messy sale process and they should take some blame for what has happened since. I will be interested to see how the Wembley experiment pans out with them playing in a half full stadium for most games.

        • Retired&Weary says:

I personally will never forgive G & S for selling to CY, & making a fortune in the process. Do you really think they will still own West Ham when they move to the new ground? Seems very like Man City to me; brand new stadium funded by taxpayers, sell to someone from Qatar or similar & make another fortune!

          • Shirley Blue says:

I think they will make an absolute fortune now from West Ham. Apart from the incredibly lucrative new TV deal they are probably thinking they can pretty much fill Wembley when they play Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool with massive away contingents and tourist fans from being in London. That’s why they fought Spurs so hard to get it. How much it will feel like a home ground compared to Upton Park is the issue. Changing the subject but we won’t be getting a big crowd on Saturday with the prices being charged. £35 in the Kop – fuc&ing ridiculous.

        • Blue lizard says:

          Spot on!!

          • Mirkwood55 says:

Point of order. West Ham are moving to the Olympic Stadium in Stratford in 2016, not Wembley Stadium.

        • mark says:

and for some of the fans attitude towards S&GB no-one in their right mind should have to tolerate that behaviour my friend…….show how fickle fans are go read the crap PR TAKEN since the Bournemonth game…..

        • mark says:

I bet they are happy as spam

        • bluenose08 says:

have I missed something as I thought west ham were moving to the Olympic stadium not Wembley !!

        • Dave Mann says:

Well said Shirley about wembley .. It’s the Olympic stadium .. Cheers pal you’ve made my day about what fans no or think ! Legend!! Kro

      • Hillfield Blues says:

I was sat behind Gold & Sullivan once towards the end of their reign when a demonstration took place as fans gathered in front of the directors box, think it was the last home game of that season.
The pure anger and venom that was directed at them as about a couple of hundred of them chanted “out out out” was frightening and made me feel sick to my stomach. It was clear from that point they wouldn’t be around for too much longer.
I wonder if those same supporters would do the same now?

        • Oldbluenose says:

Hillfield mate. You can bet your bottom dollar that they would, !!. Worse than that incident was when D,S, had his kids with him, and the look of fear on their young faces at that screaming mob,!!.

  • Paul Hawkins says:

I just want somebody who haves the club at heart and understands, respects the feelings of the supporters and others who are connected with the club. Somebody who respects the tradition and history of the Blues. I dont want anybody who is looking to mould the club in their vision ie changing the name etc. If that rules out multi billionaire then so be it.

  • Dave Mann says:

Well there’s seven bids to look at and E&Y have only BIHL at interest not BCFC , it’s there perogative to take what deal suits them but it might not suit the football club so will we be blaming E&Y if they cock up with the new owners like some fans blame Gold&Sullivan ?.. Lets wait and see!! Kro

  • mark says:

and it all depends on Carson still got money to play around in the chambers, not over until the fat lady sings……..kro

  • mark says:

like one commentator has already said they can have as many coming out their ar*e as they like the big Chief got to ok first………..

  • Dave Mann says:

Correct mark but I think the fat bloke will be singing soon and then we can all get on with supporting our club and those fans who won’t go down because of the owners will come flooding back and were have 25,000 at all home games next season… Yeah right !! Kro

  • atko says:

Would I be right in saying that Ernst & Young would be in contact with the club given that BCFC is the only business BIHL have? I’m assuming they will know the clubs financial situation until the end of the season & beyond plus the ability of the club to function in to next season right? Surely whilst they are receivers for BIHL, BCFC’s own administration has to come in to play at some point given that it is BIHL’s business, even if the club is not officially classed as in administration themselves.

  • Dave Mann says:

    Yes and no simple!! Kro

  • Blooflame says:

Great podcast, opened my mind to possibilities. Personally I’m upbeat when all things are considered. There are bidders; they know that E&Y are thorough and will not countenance time wasters; If they are “builders” that is good long term; if they want to splash out to get us there that’s good too because of the financial rewards; and I’ve given up crisps and Mars bars for my training!! Couldn’t get any better!
