Rotherham Preview in Association with EZE Group

Blues take on relegation-threatened Rotherham United as they kick off a mini-campaign of eight games in 29 days. Should Rotherham win and Blackpool lose tomorrow, Lee Clark’s men will be mathematically relegated.

Rotherham

Rotherham come into the game nervously looking over their shoulders at Wigan Athletic who have closed the gap between the two sides to five points. The Millers have lost their last three games on the spin and have only won one of their last eight away games.

Iceland international Kari Arnason is suspended while Frazer Richardson misses out with a calf injury.

Blues

Blues have two injury problems since the last game; Jonathan Spector and Andy Shinnie both picking up knocks. However, with Michael Morrison returning to fitness and Diego Fabbrini signing on loan both possibly could have missed out anyway.

Dimmi Gray may also miss this one having played for the England u19s three times in the break and could be replaced on the left by Lloyd Dyer, Lee Novak or maybe even Mark Duffy.

While the game doesn’t really mean much a home win is always welcome and this is the sort of game we should win. As much as I have been critical of the signing of Fabbrini I am looking forward to seeing what he can do and it might be a moment of magic from the Italian that unlocks the Miller’s defence.

Betting

Help the website and maybe win some money from BetVictor via this link – my tip would be Diego Fabbrini as first goalscorer at 15/2 or Birmingham/Birmingham in the half time/full time at 29/10.

To be frank I’d rather a slightly tired Dimi than Dyer. It’ll be good to see Fabbrini. Maybe we can buy him?

  • StaffsBlue says:

I don’t think either Gray or Dyer have been effective on the left. For me, Novak puts in the best shift out there. I doubt that Duffy has any chance of figuring, as much as I’d like to see him play. I think there’s a slight chance that Robinson might come back in, as Rowett knows that the Morrison/Robbo combination works. I would be surprised if the team was much different to this though:

Randolph, Caddis Morrison Kiernan Grounds, Gleeson Davis, Cotterill Fabbrini Gray, Donaldson.

I’ll be disappointed with less than 3 points over Easter…. 4 would be nice.

A good win today and then of to Bournemouth tommorow for our revenge match on Monday. Looking forward to seeing fabrini today and lets hope we go on a good run now to the end of the season to give us that lift going into the summer and then a new start next season with new owners ??? Bloody hope so ! Kro

I noticed one quote from Rowett this morning, concerning the 5 bids for the club: “There’s good people around. I still think with the right people there’s huge potential. I’m like a fan in that sense, that’s all I really look at.”

If that’s not a damning indictment on the current owners, I don’t know what is.

  • StaffsBlue says:

I think Rotherham will be desperate to beat us today. If we beat them and Wigan lose away to Middlesborough, a MIllwall win would put them 4 points behind Rotherham with 6 games to play. Also, with only 3 points seperating the top 4, it’s certainly going to be an interesting last month of the season in the Championship.

I can’t remember the last time I looked forward to a match so much. Fabbrini is the perfect fit for GR’s idea of a No.10. Give him the freedom to do his own thing and trust the defence and midfield to do their jobs.

Would still like to know what Oystons agenda was and is, he must have been crazy.

  • Mitchell says:

Am I missing something but puzzled why this game against Rotherham is all ticket.

  • Dave Mann says:

It’s all ticket for the millers fans but not sure if blues fans can pay at turnstiles ! Any way I can’t see fans turning up now if they couldn’t be bothered to get a ticket in advance .. Maybe ime missing something! Kro

  • StaffsBlue says:

Tesche, Gray and Shinnie in Davis and Fabbrini on the bench. :-/

    • SuperKRO says:

Im shocked he benched Davis. All I can think is that he has had alot of game time and considering we have Bournemouth and Wolves coming up he wanted to rest him. Fabbrini off the bench at about 60 mins for Shinnie I feel. KRO

      • StaffsBlue says:

I’ve no idea how Gleeson gets in before Davis. We have 3 games in a week, but they’ve just had 12 days without a game. I would have picked the strongest team, got 2 or 3 goals in front, then made changes and rested players.

        • SuperKRO says:

Agreed Staffs. I don’t rate Gleeson at all. Feel much better when Davis is on the pitch. I still back us to win this; Im sure GR had valid reasons for this team selection – KRO

          • Bluenosesol says:

Gleeson was hapless, Morrison could have given away 2 goals, When we bring Dyer on, we might as well play with 10 men, Donaldson spent more time wingeing than attemppting to win his headers. Why oh why did Reece and Fabrinin not get a game and why didnt Davies start? Come on Garry, sort it out, we are still paying full price to watch!! PS what was the yorkshire pudding thinking of when he let off that smoke bomb. We would be slaughtered by league and media for that!

            a) Dyer played well yesterday, so that comment is well off.

            b) Gleeson wasn’t actually that bad

            c) I can’t believe we win and people still bleating about Fab and Reece not getting a game. I don’t think Brown will play in the league again this season if what I hear is true.

  • Dave Mann says:

A wins a win and that about sums up yesterday’s result, can’t understand why gray started fabbrini didn’t and dyer coming on as sub were the three baffling decisions I could not understand … Davis being rested I can understand but fabbrini not even getting a run out was a supprise but he’s maybe saving them for the two tougher games coming up with Bournemouth and wolves but Donaldson with 14 goals now and Teaches strike lit up a poor game but off to Poole harbour today and staying till Tuesday taking in the Bournemouth game do looking forward to that with no pressure on us what do ever .. Lets try not go concede 8 goals this time , revenge is in the sea air , I can feel it .. Enjoy your Easter brake everyone . Lol&kro

  • Richard Granfield says:

I thought it was an entertaining game and Blues’ played some excellent football in the first half.
The sloppy goal conceded just after halftime made blues’ nervous at the back. Kiernan particularly seemed to lose confidence and nearly conceded a penalty.
Still a good 3 points and an encouraging performance albeit against mediocre opponents.

  • Dave Mann says:

Propably bring a bit harsh on the game as it was a little better than the dross that went on at Cardiff
. It just fustrates me that we can’t go on in the second half playing towards the Tilton and score a goal or two which have been sparse lately … If Dyer ever gets another chance with blues again then these are desperate times .. The guys bloody awfull and totally embarrassing . Kro

  • Shirley Blue says:

I enjoyed the game. At times during the first half we played as well as we have all season. Some of the approach play was excellent. Rotherham just went for it in the second half and got the early goal which put us the back foot. They had a nailed on penalty turned down and on another day Kiernan could have got sent off as well. I’m no Dyer fan but he did ok when he came on and was very close to setting up the third goal. It’s a good three points against a team that needed the points more than we did. Very disappointed not to see Fabbrini but I think he and Davis will start against Bournemouth.

  • BluesBlues says:

First half was great with interlinking play and perhaps we should of added to the goals. Second half was poor I thought the back four looked very nervous once we had conceded that joke goal. It looked like a penalty but after watching the football league show can see why it was not given as it was more of a tangle of legs once there player had miss controlled the ball. Seven games to go lets just enjoy the remaining games and see if we can reach at least sixty points which would be amazing considering the circumstances that Gary inherited. KRO
