Blues Sign Tesche

Birmingham City have signed German midfielder Robert Tesche on loan from Nottingham Forest. The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour with new Forest manager Dougie Freedman and arrives on an emergency loan basis until the end of the season. Forest however can recall the midfielder after 28 days should they choose.

With Stephen Gleeson foolishly picking up a red card and a three match ban against Brentford at the weekend, the signing of Tesche is timely. Blues fans may remember him for his 30 yard rocket which smashed the crossbar in Blues’ 3-1 win away at the City Ground; under Stuart Pearce Tesche was a regular but he has fallen foul of Freedman since the former Bolton manager took the Forest hotseat.

Tesche will take on the number 13 shirt vacated by Brek Shea in December and will hope for more of an impact on the team than the American. He has two goals in his 21 league appearances since signing for Forest on a free in August 2014; prior to that the Wismar-born midfielder was bouncing between the Hamburger SV first and second teams with a loan spell to Fortuna Dusseldorf in the 2012-2013 season.

I have to be honest and say that I don’t know that much about Tesche having not seen much of him play; what I do know is Blues have been pursuing him for a short while and he is very much a player that is of the style and mentality Gary Rowett wants. I should imagine he’ll go straight into the squad for the Blackpool game and I would think he’ll compete with Callum Reilly to take the midfield slot that Stephen Gleeson has vacated. Should we go to more of a 4-4-2 then I think he’ll be competing with Andy Shinnie to play alongside  David Davis in the central midfield.

Blues haven’t had that many Germans play for them; the only one I can remember in recent memory (if you don’t count German-born players like Maik Taylor and Mikael Forssell) is Tony Hey who made nine league appearances between 1997 and 1999. Again, I hope Tesche makes more of an impact for the club than Hey did, who’s only goal I can remember was in a 4-1 league cup defeat to Arsenal.

I’m pleased with this signing on two counts. Firstly, I think we’re a little light in central midfield with Reece Brown seemingly not being trusted to come back into the squad and the added competition will be good for the squad. Secondly, I think the signing of Tesche is proof that the club isn’t as skint as some of us thought – there is money to bring in additional players should we want them, and as we’ve seen Rowett is prepared to hold out to get the exact man he wants. With a bit of luck Tesche will show the same sort of impact as Morrison – and with the German being out of contract at the end of the season (although Forest do have an option), we may be able to bring in another decent player on a free.

As I said on the previous post I think same formation with Robinson filling in for Gleeson, if not then give the German a run out and see what happens but like most blues fans I don’t know that much about him. Kro

Reading the comments from the Forrest fans on their forum he sounds like a quality player! Very comfortable on the ball, great passer and a hard worker. Exactly what we need! He’s rated 70 on FIFA which isn’t too shabby at all

  • John Ramsay says:

I would hope he comes in for Gleeson. Sorry but I’m not a fan of Reilly even though he is a bluenose through and through.

Just looking on the web and he seems to be a well grounded lad who got a lot of praise from Stuart Pearce for his professional attitude. He seems to be reasonably tall with a good work ethic.Fingers crossed. The first overseas player that I saw at St Andrews was Alberto Tarrantini-now there was a character. If my memory serves me correctly he just decided to up sticks back to Argentina mid season.

    • Blue lizard says:

The story goes that Jim Smith who signed Tarrantini had a big white Board in the dressing room.. He was saying “ball kick into goal ” over an over Tarrantini said “yes boss I understand” ..Smith said I wasn’t talking to you I was talking to the f *****g rest of them!!

A decent signing and coupled with news that there will be no points deduction.

Deutschland Uber Alles………lets hope he doesn’t take prisoners!! KRO

  • Richard Granfield says:

I welcome Robert to Blues. He is an athletic two-footed midlfielder and his name is pronounced Tesher.

  • Colin Dent says:

Tesche is a decent defensive midfielder, took him a short while to find his feet in the English game but he’s done OK for us. Perhaps unlucky to have been dropped although to be fair the lad who took his place has been sensational in the defensive midfielder role. Hasn’t made too many mistakes in a red shirt but perhaps is down the pecking order now, he should do a decent job for you.

Sounds like a good signing just a decent player
Jaffa do you know something we don’t re 10 points

  • rhees says:

Play him tomorrow he should be match fit

  • rhees says:

    Confidence all round

  • rhees says:

Just spoke with notts Forrest fan he’s dissappoined tesher left

  • Dave Mann says:

Tesche has missed a few games since freeman came in so to start him might not be the Option but would have him on the bench but looks a good player ! Kro

  • Richard Granfield says:

Reports coming through that Mark Duffy has returned to Blues from his loan at Chesterfield.

  • andy says:

The only disappointment with the two loan signings is the recall option inserted into the deals. I would like to think Blues could hold onto these players if they impress because we have suffered through recalls in the past.

  • Tony says:

From what I hear the lads decent, Gleeson might lose his place to him would serve him right, rank stupidity on his part.
Regarding Reily I have said on previous occasions we should cut our losses with him cant see him ever making it, his distribution is terrible.

  • Dave mann says:

I agree Tony that I hope Tesche comes in and does such a good job that Gleeson can’t get is place back because that was ridiculous what he did and could have cost us three points….as for Reilly I think he’s never gonna break through at blues and sending on elsewhere might be the answer but he’s a bluenose and it might find it difficult being told that he’s not good enough but that’s the way of the world ime afraid!! Kro

  • Shirley Blue says:

Put the new German player straight in I would say – absolutely nothing to lose and if ever there was a game to make your debut its Blackpool at home. Reilly can’t pass a ball to save his life and putting Robbo in midfield is crazy – far too slow and he would be a walking red card.
The very best of luck to the Baggies tomorrow night and Saturday. Shove Sherwoods comments down his big gob and hammer another nail in their relegation coffin.

  • andy says:

If the new guy doesn’t come straight in on Wednesday then the sensible option would be to bring Robbo back into defence alongside Kiernan with Spector taking up the role vacated by Gleeson.

  • andy says:

Yes but Rowett has already stated Kiernan has two good feet so he isn’t a rigid centre back. Hey we are all Monday morning managers on here!

  • Hlllfield blues says:

A solid win on Wednesday and it will pretty much dispel relegation barring something catastrophic IMO. It would be a great opportunity to try and give Koby Authur and Reece Brown some experience with a run in the side looking to next season. With nothing to lose it would be an invaluable boost to their development.

  • AussieBlue says:

Sounds like a smart move. Break out the Knackwurst and give the lad a big welcome.
If he scores you can all chant
    “Tesher…Tesher”
and then you all fall down.
