News Round up

Birmingham City have confirmed the departures of Terry McDermott and Derek Fazackerley from the club in a statement on the official website yesterday.

The statement confirm both leave by mutual consent and both are fulsome in their praise of the fans in their departing statements. BCFC also confirm that the decision didn’t come from the board as a cost-cutting exercise.

Will Packwood has won his first call up to the senior USA team ahead of their friendly fixture with Ukraine next week. The 20-year-old has previously played for the USA u20 side and will be hoping that his continued run in the Blues first team could propel him into Jurgen Klinsmann’s thinking for the World Cup in Brazil. Lee Clark told bcfc.com that Packwood’s call up is fully deserved and that it hadn’t surprised him how well that the Concord-born defender has come back from injury.

Blues have also confirmed that 25-year-old defender Darcy Blake is on trial with the club. The former Cardiff and Crystal Palace centre-back was released by the South London side in January and is looking for a new contract to restart his career.

Thanks Dan, and keep up the good work in “Honky Fid” (as we matelots used to call it).

On a different note, congratulations to young Will P.
It is nice to see the words “friendly” & “Ukraine” in the same sentence, even if it is only a sporting term!

I think that reading between the lines of the announcement of Fazackerly & Terry Mac’s departure, it seems to indicate that LC had a bust up folllowing the Huddersfield match and probably sacked them without consulting the board in the post match review.

To me it sounds like Lee Clark just felt F&M weren’t up to the job. Seems odd though it took him 20 months to realise that though.

On the other hand, Clark perhaps also feels he’s now got enough experience under his belt and no longer needs counsel from older guys — but is prepared to trust his own instincts more.

    • StaffsBlue says:

It could also be that when Clark, Terry Mc and Fazack first arrived at the club, the squad were very much older and suited to their methods. Now, the average age of the squad is very much younger and maybe they need younger coaches. The promotion of Steve Watson and Richard Beale would perhaps bear that out.

Glad clark is a forward thinking manager we have, sometimes hard decisions have to be made.
Hope now with others stepping up to the plate a brighter future will be layed.
I praise clark for making this decision must have hard, I believe this is in the best interest of all parties……..

Maybe one of the young pros has taken over from Terry Mac fetching the sarnies, if he wanted to do the job properly he could always put a cone on his head, thereby completing the look.

Brilliant news regarding pw fully deserve his call-up……

Brilliant news about young Will Packwood. I hope he plays well. I will be interested to see the team for the QPR game, considering a lot of our players will be on international duty 3 days earlier.

  • Sh!t on the villa says:

Would love to see packwood go to brazil. Met him a few times top, top lad.

  • Jaffa says:

Bust up or not, I’m glad the two dinasours have gone.

  • Bluenosesol says:

When the Blues are playing under par, you will often see Lee jump off the bench and scream at his players. He would then turn around and observe Mc Dermott picking his nose and Fazackerley texting his mates. Lee is a very positive person and it is just possible that he came around to the realisation that his partners just did not share his enthusiasm. Who knows they might even have tried to encourage him to give up??!!

  • jazzzy786 says:

Congratulations to Will Packwood on his senior call up. Mack and Zack had to go they simply weren’t up to the job. Does anyone know anything about Darcy Blake?

  • Chris W says:

I presume that leaving mutually means they won’t be getting bumper pay-outs.
Good news for Will, he has certainly excelled since getting his place in the team and makes you think why LC took so long to show any faith in him.
